Rob Forlani Modern Artist Perth Western Australia

About the Artist: Rob Forlani

Rob Forlani"Forlani's strength is in the color saturation of his bold abstract geometric compositions. Each painting is his unique way of perceiving the world around him, in perfect symmetry and harmony. His work resonates with passion for the medium, skill and intellectual curiosity."
Angela Di Bello, Agora Gallery, New York

He has always enjoyed art in many different forms including an interest in the designing and making of jewelry, sculpting, working with paint and graphic design to name but a few.

Putting paint to canvas evokes a freedom that has no constraints. I enjoy putting little pieces of life and thoughts together in the form of enthusiastic brush strokes.
As reading is the window to knowledge, abstraction is a window to perception.

Rob Forlani's artistic journey

Rob Forlani, one of Western Australia's top contemporary artists, is known for his bold application of colour and texture. Rob's use of symbolism guides his brush strokes into standout abstract pieces, instantly transforming an ordinary room into a modern, vibrant space.

Rob's artistic journey began at the age of seven when a broken leg confined him to a bed for eight weeks at Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth. He enthusiastically participated in the hospital's 'Art Shop' program and discovered his passion for art.

It's Rob's collective experiences (his high school art teacher and impressionist painter Darryl Jane, a trip to Italy in his teens, the post-impressionist and 'fauve' movements) that influenced his various styles. It was the serendipitous discovery of artists such as Kandinsky, Hans Hofmann, Pro Hart and Helen Frankenthaler that aroused Rob's interest Abstract Expressionism.

Storm BringerAlthough Rob would have ideally been a full-time artist after school, parental pressure led him to get a trade. Rob trained in the craft of traditional-brush sign writing, the closest career to art he could find.

In early 2001, after increased interest in his artworks, Rob decided to turn his thriving sign-writing workshop into an art studio. It was not long before Rob had successful runs on the Perth gallery circuit.

In mid 2005 Rob was selected to participate in new York's prestigious Agora Gallery's "Out From Down Under and Beyond: An Exhibition of Fine Art from Australia and New Zealand" with 11 other well-known Australian artists. While travelling though some of the USA's most eclectic cities, such as New York, Boston, Washington DC and San Francisco, Rob was able to add to his growing melting pot of influence and style.

In 2006, Rob's work was chosen for a solo exhibition, entitled "Essential Abstracts", to open Zinc Details newest store, San Francisco's globally renowned interior store. Shortly after San Francisco, Rob attended his first international solo exhibition at the prestigious Art Moderna i Gallerier in Stockholm where many pieces were sold on the opening night.

Rob has successfully displayed his work in Perth, Margaret River, Melbourne, Sydney, The Gold Coast, Queensland, Adelaide, Stockholm, New York and San Francisco. The global artist looks forward to finding out which city or country will host his work next. Look out for Rob's work, the evolution of his unique style is evident at each exhibition.
